Lincolnshire butcher named best in UK – What’s their secret?

A Lincolnshire butcher has been named as the best butcher shop in the UK. Simpsons Butchers won the title at the Meat Management Industry Awards after the business was judged by experts.

Gary Simpson, who owns the butchers at Heckington, said his secret is having a variety of products available. “We have a lot of innovation products, we also do traditional cuts but also things that go with it.” Simpsons Butchers stock up to 200 products in their shop each day.

“It’s hard work and dedication for us. I like to push new ideas forward. We spend quite a bit of money in the shop and try to do the best we can,” he says. “The innovation products we have are stuffed chicken, we do stir fry duck breasts, we have barbecue packs and ready meals.”

Simpson, from Great Hale, started his first shop in Heckington but now also owns a branch in Lincoln. He has also previously been named as the best butchers shop in the Meat Trades Journal in 2015.
