Flavour-infused lamb, pork and beef dishes were skilfully prepared and cooked on Chad-O-Chef products by some of South Africa’s leading chefs in the various kitchen zones featuring at The Fire & Feast Butcher’s Festival, presented by Crown National.

“Visitors were treated to interesting yet simple ways to create new recipes using various cuts of lamb, beef and pork – including the increasingly popular offal cuts – all over an open flame,” explained the kitchen zone co-ordinator and renowned South African chef, Arnold Tanzer. “The recipes have been specifically chosen for a range of cooking abilities, all requiring minimal preparation.”

Meet Team 6 Pack, the winning team in the National Butcher’s Challenge presented by Crown National. The winning team members will form part of the squad training for ‘Team South Africa’ working towards representing the country at the World Butcher’s Challenge in Ireland next year.

The trader and consumer-focused workshops presented throughout The Fire & Feast Butcher’s Festival, presented by Crown National, provided useful insights from industry experts on a variety of topics of current importance to the meat industry.

The Fire & Feast Butcher’s Festival presented by Crown National is a much-needed platform for South Africa’s vibrant meat industry. It was spectacularly well supported by a really enthusiastic audience, all with varying knowledge about the meat industry, and an incredibly talented group of participants which made for exciting viewing and challenging judging. It provided the opportunity to meet some of the country’s most highly acclaimed butchers and leading food experts.

The country’s best butcheries, both nationally and regionally, were recently announced in Johannesburg at the 2017 Cleaver Awards. According to the organisers, the Red Meat Industry Forum (RMIF), the improvement of competitors on a year-to-year basis is noteworthy and the impact these awards have had on butchery standards in South Africa over the past few years is remarkable.
